Semrush for SEO: turn reports into more useful website pages
Connect site auditing, keyword research and position tracking in a clear workflow. Includes a local example, practical prioritisation and checks after publishing.

An SEO report becomes useful when it supports a decision about a particular page. Semrush offers several tools for that work, but their value depends on the question you ask. Start with a specific situation and preserve the connection between observation, change and verification so analysis leads to understandable action.
Our example is a hypothetical automotive workshop offering interior detailing. Its team wants clearer service pages and a better understanding of questions worth exploring. We will connect auditing, keyword research and monitoring in one workflow, treating platform estimates as research material rather than competitors' private analytics.
Prepare the project and scope
Record the domain, priority pages, language and served area. Check which databases, limits and configurations are available in the account. Regional context matters to a local business: an expression popular in a large market may be worded differently or play another role in the searches of customers who can actually use your service.
Collect team questions before running tools: is the service page accessible, does its heading explain the offer and where do connections between sections break? These questions reduce the temptation to export every available report. Prepare a working file with address, observation, proposed action and the person responsible for resolving it.
Configure the audit around the actual website
Site Audit crawls a website and groups technical observations into reports. Check scope and settings before interpreting results. Restricted access or an unintended crawl area can produce an inventory that does not represent the business's important pages or answer the original working question.
In the workshop exercise, begin with detailing, the service category and contact. Open several flagged addresses manually and confirm the observation. Record whether the issue affects visitors, page discovery or content maintenance. This classification supports prioritisation more meaningfully than ordering exclusively by the number of warnings displayed in the interface.
Resolve patterns and inspect examples
If several pages share a title problem, investigate the template generating it. If a link appears in navigation, one correction may improve the entire journey. Connect the fix with its common cause, then inspect several examples to confirm the intended outcome and discover cases using a different structure.
Separate content work from technical work. A writer can clarify an explanation while a developer corrects an address or behaviour. A useful task states what must change and what an acceptable result looks like. “Improve the score” is insufficient: the implementer needs an observation, an affected page and a post-publication check.
Research expressions from the service outward
Keyword Magic Tool helps explore expressions from an initial term. For the workshop, begin with interior detailing and add actual questions about cleaning, materials and vehicle preparation. Treat the results as ideas to investigate against the offer and the vocabulary customers use in conversations.
Group expressions by intention. Someone asking what a service includes needs different information from someone comparing prices or seeking a local appointment. One page can answer several close formulations when they concern the same question. Identify that shared meaning before planning an individual URL for every wording variation.
- Offer: what interior detailing includes.
- Preparation: which belongings to remove from the car.
- Conditions: approximate duration and relevant limitations.
- Choice: differences between available services.
- Action: how to request an appointment.
Turn groups into a page map
Assign each group to an existing page or a justified editorial need. Basic conditions may belong in the service description, while vehicle preparation may merit a separate guide. Record the reason for separation and the internal link that will help readers continue from the broad explanation to a practical detail.
Inspect public search results for a few expressions and observe useful page types. The purpose is to understand the question rather than reproduce a competitor's structure. Your own process materials, real photographs and team-verified explanations supply specifics that a keyword export cannot contain and make the page meaningfully connected to the business.
Choose priorities the team can deliver
For each proposal, assess offer relevance, evidence of the issue, effort and available materials. An important service with incomplete information may deserve attention before a popular topic the company cannot yet explain well. Estimated metrics support comparison, while their estimated nature should remain visible in the final decision.
Select a small set of interventions: clarify the service, repair a journey and write a useful guide. Assign who provides details and who approves the technical explanation. This prevents a project becoming a long idea list without photographs, information or implementation time. Each selected task should have realistic completion conditions.
Monitor a consistent question
Position Tracking follows configured expressions within the selected context. Keep location, device and tracked groups consistent when comparing results. Record publication dates so the chart can be interpreted alongside actual website work and other changes to the company's offer.
Complement observations with your own Search Console data and questions from the team handling enquiries. A ranking change alone does not tell you whether the page explains the service better. Check whether visitors reach an appropriate offer and ask questions the business can actually handle within its scope.
Close the cycle with an editorial check
After publication, read the page on a phone, open its links and inspect available languages. Confirm that heading, explanation, photographs and contact describe the same offer. Rerun the check relevant to the repaired issue and save the observation beside the change in your working file.
The next session should begin with what you learned: a new question, a remaining technical cause or material that helps customers choose. Semrush then becomes part of repeatable editorial and technical work, where reports prepare more useful pages and clearer decisions rather than accumulating disconnected exports.
